Some cultures talk and celebrate death more than others. Irish wakes and Xhosa funeral feasts are two examples. When I was young you used to frequently see black armbands denoting someone in mourning. The Victorians had strict rules about mourning periods, mourning dress, and wore mourning jewellery often containing the hair of the departed. I suppose that mortality was much higher long ago.
I have been death cleaning, and have a book about my wishes after I have gone. I may not die for decades but it is nice to have things prepared. I don’t ever want my family to be faced with physical or bureaucratic clutter when I die. I love that this site acknowledges death being part of life. My favourite is the dust to dust ring, mainly because I have seen it on someone, and it is gorgeous.
